The project aims at improving the health conditions of the population affected by oil pollution in the provinces of Sucumbíos and Orellana. It is based on monitoring and gathering information on the population health status and training in knowledge and tools to prevent the outbreak of more diseases.
Conduct a permanent monitoring of the health conditions of the population and the effect of palliative care.
Train on healthy lifestyles and food to prevent the occurrence of more illnesses .
Support economically and morally ill people with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.
Thanks to the substantial support of Clinica Ambiental and Central Sanitaria Suiza de Romanda a we realized a health reportdetailed on the conditions of the affected populations, which highlighted how the communities still suffer from many types of diseases caused by the effect of pollution, including high rates of cancer.>.
Ademas, creamos el primer Registro Biprovincial de Tumores, desarrollado también en conjunto con la Clínica Ambiental, con la colaboración directa del paciente o familiar para contar con la información; no se cuenta con la participación de algún tipo de institución pública o privada que se encargue de salud. El registro, que se mantiene en constante evolución, es actualizado hasta enero de 2020.
In the meantime, we started a support program for the affected people, which develops different interventions /strong>, such as:.
o Health and healthy eating workshops every two months in collaboration with the Clínica Ambiental.
o Monthly psychological support and delivery of palliative care to people with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses.
o Support to patients looking for medical solutions and financial support , including accompaniment with a doctor in Quito for priority weekly visits.
2003: Beginning of gathering information process on health conditions in the affected areas.
2016: Health report elaboration
2018: Facing the increase of cancer and deaths cases, a more structured project of monitoring, training, palliative care and accompaniment of the sick begins.
